Update - Denver North wide receiver Lorenzo Guerra

How did the high school football season go overall?
“The football season for me was definitely a different type of feel due to the fact that we had got a new Head Coach and a New defensive Coach. I was all over the place position wise on defense because my coach wanted to get a feel on how I played at certain positions. I was playing safety at the CSU team camp, then switched back to linebacker, but on the offensive side I always was a wide receiver. I feel like injuries during the early and late session hurt us tremendously, it took a lot of senior role players out of the roster and hurt our chances at playoffs because of the low-depth chart.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plans now sports-wise is doing track this offseason working on my speed and explosiveness off the ball, always trying to get quicker out of my releases. Workout wise I tend to work on the things that I’m the weakest at, working on my balance and movement because that’s where I will thrive at, not benching 300+ pounds.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I have mixed emotions about how I think my season will go next year due to the fact that our defensive and offensive line was super senior heavy, but skill player wise we have all the positions filled that we need. We are a heavy class of 2024 team so we will also be senior heavy next year which is also a good thing. Coming off a great defensive season North High School had 3 all-league linebackers and 1 all-state. If we can get a line going during the offseason we definitely will do some damage and have a play-off run our senior year.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“We have not gotten our schedule yet so I could not give you a specific team that I think will be our toughest opponent for the 2024 season but schools like the meads, Fredricks, Lutherans, holy families, the top 3a schools are definitely the ones that we know we have to work extra hard during that game week. But to be the best you got to play the best right? We might not be the team with the most players but our 30 guys will play their hardest.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Like my previous answer to the last question we haven’t received our schedule so I couldn’t give a specific player that I think we will have the toughest time against. I can say though that we have a lot of talent in DPS that I think isn’t getting enough recognition such as the 4a-5a schools. If you look at history players like Philip Lindsay and Calais Campbell both NFL players are product of DPS football. So I don’t think it’s a talent issue. I think it has to do with kids not wanting to go to these 3a programs even though they live by these schools. I know kids who will drive an extra 30 minutes out of their area to go to a bigger school.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I do plan to play college football and that is my goal. Does not matter what program or which division football is football to me, and if you love the game unconditionally the hard work will pay off.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I haven’t been getting any super [big] recognition but I have gotten a personal call from ENMU, I have talked to Coach Anderson via twitter from Dakota State, and texts and emails from Coach Gifford up at El Camino College. I’ve also gotten messages from Coach Titus at Concordia College, and Coach Brown from Cal Lutheran Football. Since I barely turned a junior this year I have not been able to do my SAT and PSAT and I feel that has slowed down my recruiting process because I cannot provide those scores. Once the testing season comes around and I can provide those scores, senior season will for surely be a heavy recruiting year for me.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“No particular School is recruiting me the hardest right now, but once one school see not just the stats that I put up (1st in rec yards league six 3a) but the hard-working student athlete that I am, more notice will come towards my name certainly. All it takes is one for more to come, and like I said during the previous question once testing season comes around senior year will be a great year recruiting wise.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I have not made any “official” college trips yet, but I do plan on going to college camps with my team and teammates. The Colorado State University Team Camp definitely helped me and the team as a team. We played against a great 5a state championship contender Ralston Valley, and another great 4a State-contender Palmer Ridge. Playing against big playoff teams as a smaller 3a team with a smaller depth chart builds character and grit. We always make sure to be scheduled up against the hardest teams to become better. Even when it comes to 7v7.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“Yes I do plan to take college trips soon whether it’s “unofficial” or “official” we will see very soon.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“I never had one favorite college team but I always loved watching the big SEC and Pac 12 teams like Alabama, Georgia, and LSU because of the crazy atmosphere and energy they always have. Watching the crowd’s energy when a player scores is very exciting to watch, and I can only imagine how the player feels watching thousands of fans cheer for them. I want to experience that same feeling inspiring thousands of young kids to pursue their talents regardless of whether it's football or not.”

Update - Buena Vista athlete Caleb Camp

How did the high school football season go overall?
“For the most part we had a couple of hiccups as a team, that really had an affect on the end of our season, but for the most part I would say as an individual I filled my role in being a wide receiver and did everything I was able to do to make us as a team better, which shows I could have done better knowing the outcome of the season. But overall [it] was a great season for me coming out with no regrets.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“I am in wrestling season now, I wake up every morning at 6 and go workout before school at 8 and then after school I go straight to practice and grind, showing up when it’s dark and leaving when it’s dark. I am looking to win another title this year as well! Just one at a time.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“Well of course we are losing some studs up front and in the back field but we also have some dawgs coming in and I know they will step up as us upperclassman will push them and ourselves to be better every day to get where we need to become football season and from there on we will see a good result.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Well there will be a lot of tough competition next year, but I would say Limon is a real tough team to beat as they have had a great program for a while now but I still believe if we all step up like we can, we will be coming.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“We like to see all of our competition the same as someone we need to beat, there is no specific person, just whoever is in front of us.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Right now I have a lot of interests for wrestling but as of right now I have a lot of doors opening for me in baseball and football, so we will see.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“Right now I have had tons of colleges reach out but the two main ones right now are West Point and The Coast Guard Academy but it has been real hard for me to find one that really interests me.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“Coast Guard Academy.”

“I think my team has a chance to be undefeated and win the state championship if we all work hard in the offseason on getting stronger and faster.”

“I would love to play sports in college that is definitely one of my goals and one of the colleges that I would want to play at is Colorado University. They have amazing facilities and I love the campus.”

How did the high school football season go overall?

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“I do believe the toughest individual player my team is going to face would probably be Creek’s Quarterback Brady V. I do have trust in our defense this year to slow him down if not shut him down but he’s always that player you know will be tough to beat.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“There’s too many people to name! I mean being a two way player I see guys like Carson Hageman, Dylan Firebaugh and Gio Giampietro on the defensive side of the ball treating every snap like it’s their last and balling out like Gio’s a shifty kid you may think you have him on the ropes but then … boom he spins off you and he’s in the backfield making a play, and Carson he can read your hips like a book and know exactly where your weight is and straight up embarrass you and Dylan is a helluva DB. The kids are always in the film room knowing what to expect against our opponents and he can make a play like no other. pivoting from that on the Offense, guys like Cole Powell, Ronin Ward, and Braylon Toliver just to name a few. Cole can ball out any chance you give him, he’s ready to make a Defensive Ends night hell. Ronin’s so technical at QB he’s always searching how to make a defenses job just a little harder every snap, if he notices any mistakes in a defense he can automatically play it against them. Braylon knows how to hit a whole and he can put our team in the best situation possible, plain and simple. At Erie we don’t like to look too much into the past but I always think about one specific play in the State Championship game, we were at about mid field and I pulled as the Right Guard and Palmer Ridge knew what was coming, Braylon was already there with the ball and noticed the amount of traffic, he didn’t like it. Strapped all of the small town of Erie Colorado on his back, noticed a cutback lane hit it and scored.”

Update - Glenwood Springs quarterback Joaquin Sandoval

How did the high school football season go overall?
“Our season started out a bit tough due to the fact that we got a new coaching staff and were trying to learn the new system. The new coach didn't get hired until late spring thus causing a delay in team chemistry and knowledge, our coaching staff implemented an RPO offensive scheme that gave me many opportunities to make plays. Our first few games we were able to find ways to win due to sheer athleticism on our team but we unfortunately lost some games in heartbreaking fashion. Overall, we finished the season .500 and just missed making the playoffs.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plans this winter are to continue what I started last year and that is to get stronger, faster, and improve my standings in track as I qualified for State Track and placed 4th in the 4A 100-meter dash and 3rd in the 200-meter dash finals.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“We are kind of in the same position as we were last year because we will have a new head coach and possibly staff as our head coach just resigned due to family issues. Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“To be honest no one really comes to mind because most will have graduated this year.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes, my goal and first love is to play college football but I also really enjoy competing in track and field.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“There are a few colleges that have been talking to me from the western slope and also a couple from Utah.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“The University of Utah extended an invitation to a game, Colorado Mesa University showed us the campus after their summer camp.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“Nothing is really planned yet but I know I will visit the local schools this summer if and when I attend their football camps.”

Update - Palmer Ridge quarterback Shonn Carson Campbell

How has everything been going football wise as of late?
“Football has been going very well. We made a great run in the playoffs and unfortunately lost to Loveland in the semifinals in a close game but overall a great season.”

Going forward, what do you feel your team can continue to improve on?
“The thing that I think we need to improve on is trusting in ourselves. Sometimes we try and do too much and really if we stick to our own game, we would be extremely good.”

Have you been pleased with your performances?
“For the most part, yes. I had a great JV season and we had tons of success. In my varsity time I did pretty good but definitely [have] stuff to work on this off-season.”

How do you feel about the play of your team?
“This was the most athletic, hard-nosed team I've been a part of. It’s fun to watch and learn from when I'm in that position eventually.”

What are your sporting goals going forward as of now?
“Right now I would love to go play college football. Of course I need varsity time first so that’s the main goal but college is definitely there as well.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes it is the goal. I would love to go to coastal Carolina. They are not power 5 which is cool but they are still competitive. I also love the offense they run. It is a very complex offense that really is fun to watch.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I am not being recruited.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?

Update - Limon athlete Jordan Rockwell

How did the high school football season go overall?
“The high school football season went amazing overall. There is no better way to end a season than being a state champion. Although, the memories and the little moments that I got to spend with my brothers throughout the season was the real joy and I will cherish those memories forever.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plans now with sports is to finish my junior year playing basketball, baseball, and track hoping to win another championship. My plan with workouts is to lift consistently every day in hopes to get bigger for next season. I also am trying to gain some weight before next football season.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I think my team will do well. We lose some great senior leaders with experience but will return many players for next season. Every year we have several goals. Those goals include winning our first game, winning homecoming, winning our league, and winning a championship. I think if our team continues to stay in the weight room then the hope for another championship will be in reach.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“There are a couple of teams that I feel will be the toughest competition next year. I feel like both Strasburg and Holyoke will be solid squads. Both Strasburg and Holyoke are returning many experienced varsity players for next season and will be tough teams to beat.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“The two toughest individual players that I think my team will go up against are Samuel Meisner from Wray and Wyatt Sprague from Holyoke. Samuel Meisner was a stud for the Wray team this year and will continue to get bigger and better before he leads his team in his junior season next year. Wyatt Sprague is a dynamic quarterback in Holyoke and he has a big arm that can spread out our defense. I think he will be a leader for his Holyoke team next year and he will help them compete at the 1A level.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I would like to play a sport in college. Out of my three main sports basketball, baseball, and football, I want to play baseball in college. However, if an opportunity opens for either of them then I would have to think further on what I want to do.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“No school is recruiting me as of now.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I haven’t made any college trips yet.”

Update - Denver North quarterback Frankie Dardano
How did/is everything going football wise as of late?
“I feel like football went pretty good this season. My team faced adversity with injuries and a new system, but we persevered and had a good, fun season.”

What do you feel your team can continue to improve on going forward?
“Last year was a new year with a new staff, now with a full year under our belts on offense and defense we can improve on having a better understanding of assignments and playing faster.”

Have you been pleased with your performances?
“This year I was pleased with my performances, my run game was greatly improved, with 457 rushing yards and 7 rushing TDs, and I showed we can still pass the ball with another 2,000 yard passing season. Next year however, I do want to get my passing TD numbers back up.”

How do you feel about the play of your team?
“I was proud of my team this year. Like I said we battled through adversity all year. We lost two of our best players early in the season, but still battled and continued to be scrappy and give every team a fight. At North, it’s one big family on the football team, and I was proud of the way we always played for each other.”

What are your sporting goals going forward as of now?
“My sports goals as of now are to continue working on football and getting the team together early so we are prepared for next season, but I also have baseball coming up, so I’m looking forward to that as well.”

Update - Thompson Valley quarterback Riley Suarez
How did the high school football season go overall?
“I feel like this high school season went pretty good but definitely not as good as my teammates and I had hoped and worked for.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My off-season plans are to take this winter season to get in the weight room and the batting cages to get ready for this upcoming baseball season this spring.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I feel like Thompson Valley football next year will be different but we will still be good and definitely a team to look out for. We will definitely miss our graduating seniors from this year but I am sure I am still confident in next year’s group.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I am sure that there will be a lot of competitive games for us next season and I think one of those teams for sure that will be a hard nose opponent will be Loveland, with the rivalry it always makes things fun and interesting and combined with both schools having good football players and athletes overall it should be a fun matchup.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“If conferences stay the same, I think there are a lot of great individual players on every team but one that I know is good and is always fun to play against is Bronco Hartson for Roosevelt. Both of us play quarterback. I have a lot of respect for him and how he plays.”

......................................................................................................
Update - University quarterback Coel Croissant
How did the high school football season go overall?
“We got off to a 0-3 start. We played Delta, Eaton and Elizabeth which is a tough way to start the season. We had a bye week and made some changes which included me moving to QB where I had played last year on JV and at Eaton my freshman year. Once we made those changes we went on a 6 game win streak to win the league and then we beat The Academy in the first round of the playoffs before losing to TCA in the quarter finals. Overall it was a successful season.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“We will start off season workouts on Tuesday. I plan on wrestling this season to get ready for baseball.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“We have a lot of kids coming back next year that got a lot of playing time and experience this season. There is a lot of excitement for next season. The precedent has been set for this program to be a perennial playoff team.”
